A full day here will give you opportunity to do some activities that the lodge has to offer or drive to Lake Duluti for canoe trip.

After breakfast we will set off to Arusha National Park where we will enjoy an accompanied morning’s walk, learning about animal tracking and observing a variety of wildlife including giraffes and birds. Although small, Arusha National Park has great diversity in its landscapes; ranging from the striking Mt Meru, grasslands, alkaline lakes, dense forests and a magnificent crater.

The park is home to many species of birds, blue monkeys, baboons, colobus monkeys, zebra, warthogs to name a few. Africa’s largest population of giraffes are found in Arusha National Park, so you are sure to meet some of these elegant animals. Larger game are present (elephants, lions) but rarely seen on a day’s safari. The Momella Lakes are home to hippos and a wide variety of birds and in particular pink flamingos.

We will enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the Momella Lakes, home to hippopotami, a wide variety of birds and in particular pink flamingos.

We will depart Arusha in the morning and head directly to Tarangire National Park, named after the river that runs through it which quenches the thirst of a variety of animals, including giraffes, waterbucks, wildebeests, zebras and a high density of elephants. Tarangire is home to over 550 species of birds and its hilly landscape is dotted with baobabs and diverse grasses. After a morning game drive, you will enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the river, before continuing wildlife viewing until arriving at your lodge for a sunset drink overlooking the Tarangire River.

As the sun rises, beaming beautiful golden light, we will do our first game drive of the day. This is a fantastic time to view wildlife and to take memorable photos. We will take a picnic breakfast to have along the way. In the middle of the day we will return to the lodge for lunch and a rest, swim or massage. Later in the day we will explore the park further with another game drive before dinner.

After breakfast we will head to Lake Manyara, an alkaline lake, rich with plant and bird life. The lake’s environment supports over 300 species of birds including cormorants, pink flamingos, pelicans and storks.  After a picnic lunch, we will enjoy an afternoon game drive where you can see elephants and baboons (in fact Lake Manyara boasts the most baboons in any park in Africa!)  If you are lucky you will also see the famous tree-climbing lions. 

We will start our journey after breakfast to the Serengeti National Park, home to the ‘big five’; rhinoceros, elephant, leopard, buffalo and lion. The Serengeti is one of the greatest national parks in the world, spanning over 14,000 km².  The name Serengeti comes from a Maasai word meaning ‘endless plains’.

Although populations fluctuate, there are an estimated 3 million large game animals in the Serengeti, including over 2,500 lions, 1.2 million wildebeest and over 200,000 zebras. You will also have the opportunity to see giraffes, baboons, colobus monkeys, gazelles, antelopes, crocodiles, hippos, waterbuck, hartebeest and more! This vast and varied park is home to more than 500 bird species; including ostriches, vultures, martial eagles, kori bustards, crowned crane and secretary birds.

 The Serengeti boasts the largest terrestrial migration in the world, with over 2 million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle annually moving in search of greener pastures.

Enjoy a picnic or camp lunch before continuing for an afternoon game drive through the vast plains. A trip to the Serengeti at any time of the year can never disappoint!

Beginning the day with an early game drive, you will experience the Serengeti as the sun rises and wildlife awakens in the golden morning light. This is one of the best times for wildlife viewing.  We will return to your lodge / camp for a late breakfast and rest, before setting out into the vast Serengeti plains for the rest of the day.

We will enjoy a picnic lunch during the day and return to our lodge / camp early evening.

After breakfast we will enjoy at game drive to the main Serengeti gate and stop for a picnic lunch. Heading towards the Ngorongoro Crater we will pass through varied landscapes and micro-climates – vast plains, sweeping hills and dense forests. We will arrive early evening at your selected accommodation.

You will begin with taking in the magnificent views from the crater rim before descending into the crater itself. You will have the opportunity to see elephants, lions, buffalo, zebra and many other species of animals and birds. We will enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the hippo pool.

In geological terms, the Ngorongoro Crater is actually a caldera, caused by the collapse of a large volcano 2-3 million years ago. The crater floor covers over 260 km² while the depth is some 610 m.

The Ngorongoro Crater is beautiful at any time of year and teaming with wildlife. You may experience clear views of the crater bowl or mists rolling down into the base - either way a memorable experience.

After leaving the Crater in the late afternoon, we will drive to the farming town of Karatu.  

We will enjoy breakfast at the lodge before heading towards Arusha. There will be several opportunities to stop along the way, enjoying the varied landscapes and a chance to browse in some cultural souvenir shops. We will stop for a Tanzanian lunch along the way.

As we enter the outskirts of Arusha, we will visit the Snake Park, where you will learn about all types of reptiles. You can even hold a snake and ride a camel!

We will arrive back in Arusha in the early evening.

You will spend the day at the outstanding Maasai Lodge, taking part in various activities, including a nature walk. You will have the opportunity to learn more about the Maasai, the most iconic tribe in East Africa. Children will enjoy a donkey ride and a spear throwing competition!

This is a stunning location, so enjoy the peace, the pool with a view, have a massage, a sauna and find the mirror cave!

Welcome to Tanzania!

Your Taswira Africa guide will be waiting for you at Kilimanjaro International Airport. We will then drive to the intriguing Maasai Lodge, where you will be met with singing and stories around the camp fire.  (approximately a 1.5 hours drive, depending on traffic and time of arrival.)

Today you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport to take your flight to Stone Town, Zanzibar, where you will be transferred to your accommodation in the old part of town.  The Zanzibar Archipelago is off the mainland of Tanzania and comprised of several small islands and two large ones; Pemba and Unguja (commonly referred to as Zanzibar and in this itinerary). Zanzibar is rich in history; from ancient Persian to the sultans of Oman, the influences are diverse and distinct.

After breakfast, we will enjoy a walking tour of this historic town, a World Heritage site, taking us through narrow streets enjoying the striking architecture. The tour includes the House of Wonders, the Palace Museum, Dr Livingstone’s House and the Arab Fort amongst others. You will see Zanzibar’s bustling market, winding alleyways, ornately carved and studded doors, cathedrals and mosques.  In the afternoon you will visit Prison Island, which is a small island 5.6km northwest of Stone Town. The island was used as a prison for rebellious slaves in the 1860’s.

After breakfast, we will head to Warere Beach Hotel passing through villages along the way. We will enjoy several stops including a spice tour of a traditional farm and a visit to the slave caves. After a fresh aromatic lunch in the spice farm we will arrive late afternoon to Warere Beach Hotel.

Today you have a free day to partake in a variety of activities, such as yoga, kayaking, cycling, boat trips or simply relax by the pool or on the beach.
