Lake Victoria is one of Africa’s Great Lakes and with a surface area of 68,800 km², it is Africa’s largest lake by area and the world’s largest tropical lake. In geographical terms it is relatively young at 400,000 years of age. Lake Victoria (named after Queen Victoria) is divided between three countries; Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, with a 49% share. This vast lake is home to a wide variety of fauna including hippos, Nile crocodiles, African clawless otters, monitor lizards and kingfishers.
